Honesty Is The Best Policy

Honesty Is The Best Policy

On my Journey to becoming an entertainment marketer, I was presented with this amazing opportunity to work with and manage this up and coming artist, who has been in the business for five years. After meeting with her and getting a sense of what she expected, I had to be completely honest with her and let her know that I knew nothing about managing an artist.
Although I am in school and I am learning an immense amount through the program, there is still a lot that goes into managing an artist that I don’t quite possess. She however, agreed to still work with me and see if we can grow together. Astonished at the news, I decided to look up what it takes to manage an artist. I came across this website with the headline “How To Manage Your Artist Into Success.” Reading a little bit more, the website gave a description of the chairman of Buena Vista Music Group, Mr. Bob Cavallo. Mr. Cavallo also happens to be the former manager of many artists including Prince. In a short video, Mr. Cavallo said something very important that I hope to take with me as I enter this new business venture. He explains that he was honest but also demanded honesty from his artists. Honesty and Loyalty are things that are hard to come by, especially in the entertainment industry.[1] Even with this being said, I want to be honest and loyal to my clients and I would hope that they would be honest and loyal to me. I believe that honesty and loyalty are the only things that ensure a great work environment and allows for the ultimate amount of success.
I have no idea where managing this artist will take me. All I know is that I will work hard and diligently to ensure that she gets the best possible service from me. Although I know nothing about being a manager, I can not be scared of the things I don’t know, only the things that I am not willing to learn. Through honesty and loyalty and of course hard work, I hope to be a success story in the entertainment business industry.

American Marketing Association ...The contribution

American marketing Association is a network of marketing companies, all over the country. From the housing industry to the food and restaurant industry to the entertainment industry, all have to be marketed and branded in order to achieve a certain success. Through this network, different companies are able to bounce ideas off of each and even collaborate on certain products to ensure client success. Webster’s dictionary defines marketing as the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising. Every single thing on the face of this earth can be marketed, from natural to man made. In the entertainment industry it is imperative that there is some type of marketing involved. Entertainers rely strictly on their brand to keep interest. Without interest in who they are no one will buy their music or go watch their movies and follow anything that they are associated with. The American marketing association released a press release on May 22, 2012 announcing it international alliances. The alliances were with the Asian marketing federation and the marketing association of Spain. This alliance could potentially be very beneficial to American marketers. As far as the entertainment marketers, the entertainment industry is an international industry. Entertainers from music to movies are marketed throughout the world so being able to interact with other marketing companies around the world can be a good thing for marketing companies in the United States, especially entertainment marketers. The American Marketing Association commits itself to promoting the highest standard of professional ethical norms and values for its members. (marketingpower.com). The roots of the American Marketing Association can be traced to the early 1900’s when the national association of teachers and advertisers and American Marketing Society, comprised of marketers and marketing researches, merges to bring together all marketers, across all specialties to collaborate and inspire one another. (marketingpower.com). All in all, as an entertainment marketer it is a great thing for me to have a network of people who work similar to me and can help me. Having an international connection is also helpful because I am able to connect with them especially when trying to market a client internationally.
