Don't Sell Yourself Short

Sometimes in life it is easier to dwell on the negative shortcoming then to see the many blessings that we have. On my Journey to success I realize that when I doubt myself and my capabilities, I only hold myself back.

To be successful in an industry that is made to chew you and spit you out you have to be confident and never sell yourself short. As a woman sometimes it may feel like you have to work harder for someone to take you seriously, but working hard should never be something to complain about.

Having discussions with friends it always easy to get frustrated for the things that don’t seem to go right in life. Finding a job is not easy, school work, and of course relationships can be tough, but working hard always pays off in the end. Research is everything. The more you know about your industry the better off you are. The more you study the better off you will be in school, and the more you learn from past bad relationships the better off you will be in a new one.

Just like in life, marketing is about what you know. In life the more knowledgeable you are the more power you have. Don’t let shortcomings and negative bumps in the road stop you from achieving your goals. When I step out of the house, despite all the negative things I may encounter, I understand that life is a marketing opportunity. There is always a time where I am making an impression on someone. You never know who is watching and who I might attract whether it be professional or personal. At the end of the day after you market a person or a product, they or it has to deliver what you marketed. So appearances can get you in the door but you must know what you are talking about in order to survive.

Market Yourself

Living in a big city like New York, I am blessed with many opportunities to market myself. The city is a host to hundreds of events daily, and with the right research getting on a list to one of these events is as easy as 1 2 3. In order to be a successful entertainment marketer the first person I have to market is myself. No one will take me seriously if I don’t prove that I have the right skills and training to do the job. Although I may be smart and educated no one in this industry has time to find about my life story. So how do you market yourself? First and foremost presentation is everything. First impressions are lasting impressions, so if your attire says that you do not care then people will assume that your personality is the same way.  Printing a set of business cards does not require much and is a great way to show people what you specialize in and how you can be an asset to them, all in a professional manner.
Do your research! Nothing else looks worse then someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about. Be prepared for anything that someone can possibly throw your way because industry officials are looking to weed out the weak from the strong and knowledge is key. Another important factor in marketing yourself is to not be afraid to meet people. I know sometimes I have a problem with being comfortable in my own space but in order for me to be successful I have to be willing to meet new people and show them what I am made of.
In today’s economy, no matter what industry or field one goes into, it is important to be able to market yourself. Standing out is a must because there are many lined around the corner ready to take the spot that you worked so hard to attain. Never settle for less and always remember that you have something to offer.
