TED.com is a nonprofit devoted to ideas worth spreading. It
started out in 1984 as a conference, bringing together people from three
worlds, Technology, Entertainment, and Design.[1]
This TED presentation talks about the importance of viral video and how it has
transformed not only companies but people as well. The speaker used video and
company examples to explain how viral video works. He also explained the
industries affected by viral video and why they worked so well with it. He
showed a video of a six year old doing amazing break dancing moves that look
impossible for someone of his size to do. He explains that the six year old
learned his dance moves from watching YouTube. Viral companies like YouTube
have become learning tools for people all over the world. The speaker overcame
adversity by giving examples of his point of view. It really proved to be
amazing because TED.com uses viral video to spread its lectures all over the
world. The speaker described a significant event with a small town in Kenya. In
Kibera Slums, Kenya, TED lectures have helped Kibera create ideas to transform
the slums into a site that can produce food for its people, as well as, provide
its own television network through the use of technology. The viral videos from
TED helped this small town and the viral video from the small town helped
motivate and inspire the followers and watchers of the TED viral lecture. This
video helped build trust and knowledge of what the speaker was trying to prove.
“Seeing is believing”. The speech has helped me personally understand the
affects of viral video. You see it everyday, people being discovered on You
Tube, but you never think that viral video can help build a city or provide
food for the needy. They’re so many things you can learn by watching these
videos and they also serve as great promotional tools especially for the entertainment
marketing industry.
